On being an ignoramus. Part 4
People often say that you need to read a lot because only reading can enlighten you. People who don’t read are considered by those who read (those who were always told how important reading is in a person’s life), by the well educated ones, by those with college education, as an inferior bunch.
That’s the general idea among those who had been instructed to read. Often those who read will say that someone is hopeless if he or she doesn’t read at all (when he or she should read a lot), or, to put it another way, if he or she read only one or two books in his or her lives.
